102 S. Jefferson Street, just off the Village Square.
A Passion for Bourbon
The few years before opening Jason's Top Shelf, my love and passion for bourbon grew and turned into my favorite hobby. I really enjoy "bourbon hunting" for special bottles from place to place with friends and talking about the different bottles we have found.
As with many people when they start drinking this wonderful spirit, I mixed it. It didn't take long before I would drink it on the rocks, and now I prefer it neat.
I love tasting the different flavors that come from all the distilleries. The higher proofs are my favorites, as I love the spiciness from those fun brown liquids. I still like it all, though, and like trying new and old cocktails.
There is so much to learn about bourbon and other whiskeys. I am working on my
Stave and Thief Society certification. I am ever striving to learn more. I'm excited to have turned my favorite hobby into a successful business!
Jason's Top Shelf is Born
I started this business after the job I had for over 20 years announced it was moving out of the country. My wife Melissa and I contemplated what was next. I decided I wanted to try something different than warehousing. What was that going to be though? We wrote down many different options (She decided that I wouldn't be a good foot model). Then something wonderful and unexpected happened. We were approached by an awesome couple in our community asking if we would be interested in purchasing the old Pilcher Jewelry building. Melissa and I both exclaimed, "You know what those display cases would be good for - bourbon!" We decided to go for it - we were going to own two businesses on our downtown square.
After months of hard work and help from family and friends, we are there! We are proud to have worked hard to use all local small business, contractors and services, and sourced as many supplies locally as possible.
My place offers a variety of bourbons, whiskeys, wine, and other spirits for purchase to take home. If you're thirsty right then, try some of our samples, have an ounce pour, glass of wine, or a fine mixed cocktail made with fresh ingredients at the bar.
In a few months, we want to start bourbon and wine clubs. We are currently thinking of other fun stuff to do too, like showing the documentary, "Neat," or having special guests to talk about their products. And of course we'll have seasonal special on our cocktail menu.
